James Fenske- morning seminar session (1125-1225)

Picture
James Fenske is a University Lecturer in Economic History in the Department of Economics at the University of Oxford as well as a Deputy Director of the Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE).

He completed his PhD at Yale University in 2010 and has been at Oxford since 2010. Much of his research is focused in West Africa, having published work on issues such as ‘the battle for rubber in Benin’ and the causes and consequences associated with property rights in the Ivory Coast.

In more recent work with Achyuta Adhvaryu, James has been looking at correlations between war, resilience and political engagement across the African continent in an effort to determine whether early life exposure to war affects an individual’s political engagement in later life. This will be one of the main focuses of his of IID seminar, but he will also be speaking about conflict and civil war in development more generally, providing a wider context to his personal findings.
